On Tuesday November 15 2005 Helplanka a UK registered charity will
be hosting a reception in the Jubilee Room House of Commons attended
by MPs and a representative from the Department of International
Development.
Tom Brake MP for Carshalton & Wallington Shadow Spokesman for
Transport and Patron of Helplanka will welcome cross party MPs to
the event to hear how Helplanka and its partners from the UK have
helped children in Sri Lanka rebuild their lives.
Some of the successes of Helplanka will be outlined in a special
review from 6pm till 8 pm. Helplanka’s work to date includes
the launch of a schools twinning programme with UK schools, aid
shipments, bereavement counselling, volunteer programmes and equipping
schools with essential supplies.
The event will culminate with an awards ceremony to thank donors
and partners for their generosity and commitment to the work of
the charity across the island in the last 11 months.
